I’ve been at BakerHicks for over eight years now and I’ve forged my own future, working my way through engineering and project management to become Managing Director of Process & Industry. The process industries are dominated by a focus on engineering rather than construction so projects can run late during delivery: I saw an opportunity to bring the two together and match our specialist design and engineering skills with a real group wide expertise in construction and delivery. We specialise in the Life Sciences and Manufacturing sector and the work we do is creative and challenging because we’re involved in every stage, from conceptual thinking through to delivery and handover.
I love the variety in this job, both in terms of the sectors we work in and the varied problems we have to solve. The freedom to explore new technologies and opportunities for customers is also very rewarding.
I want to deliver interesting and complex projects, taking on the kind of challenges that can make a real difference for our customers. We are continually looking to grow and develop, and that can be achieved in part by recruiting and developing more engineers. I believe training graduates and apprentices is absolutely essential – we have a responsibility to train the next generation.
